It's a fact, some guys are just plain mean. They enjoy the reaction they get when they surprise others with hurtful remarks. Instead of joining the rest of the human race by keeping issues of personal taste to themselves, they chose to make it known to others when they don't like something. So in light of a recent post by a Girl Time girl about "Frank" and "Ogre" and some pointless comments that them made to her, I'll use them as an example.
First of all they are not a "they" at all. Frank and Ogre are the same guy. Some poor simpleton on a static IP cable modem in Alberta, Canada. His IP addresses over the past few weeks have been 68.148.66.245 and 68.148.193.157; both are part of Shaw cable. Since we have no members in Alberta Canada with other IP addresses in "Frank's" entire B class, I could easily take all of about 30 seconds to ban all 65 thousand computers on his network. Or, I can do the rational thing and simply ban all 255 IP addresses in each of the C classes he uses. I took about 45 seconds out of my day to ban Frank.
Now sure "Frank" can reboot his cable modem a few dozen times until his IP address changes outside the range that I've banned, but for me its only about 45 seconds out of my day to send him back to the starting line; and after all these years of doing this, it's just a part of my routine, no trouble at all. And that's the whole point. Banning guys is simply a couple mouse clicks, to look at an access log for a chat room, then a couple more clicks to do the deed. Once banned, they have to do all the hard work to get back, and eventually they will run out of IP addresses that they can use.
Frank is a bored guy. Women don't like him and he can't get a date to save his life. He's had girls laugh at him and say "eww gross" when he tries to get near them. Frank wants that same kind of attention from women that attractive and interesting men get, but he's a complete tool. He's discovered that he can get attention from girls who would otherwise ignore him by insulting them. He's getting the only kind of attention that is possible for a guy like him. Frank's life is dismal and bland.
The attention frank has gotten from this blog and the blog by the Girl Time girl that first wrote about him is the most exciting thing that's happened in his miserable existence, too bad he has to find a new IP address to enjoy it.
