Heading towards Thanksgiving....
So there are a handful of days to glorious turkey day. I do have to say if for nothing else I love the food of the 4 weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Turkey, stuffing, potatoes, rolls, ham, cheesecakes, pie, corn, cookies, fudge, more cookies, turkey, and stuffing. Yeah sure, any of those things you can have any time of the year, but there is something about this time of year that makes it special. Not to mention leftovers. I always tend to come home from my parents house with a big bag full of food. A left over piece of pie, some extra rolls, a box full of turkey and stuffing. Which usually lasts maybe two days. If turkey wouldn't make you so sleepy, I could probably have it every day.
And of course christmas cookies. Well, my mom is a baker. There are two things she tends to do after thanksgiving. Brave the insanity that is black friday sales and do some christmas shopping, then start baking christmas cookies. Which lasts for 2 or 3 weeks. Mostly on the weeknds, occasionally on the week nights. How my dad doesn't blow up to fat albert size this time of the year has to be a testament on how my mom guards those cookies until she is done and mails them to relatives and sends them to offices and friends. Here is a picture of what the 2006 edition of her christmas cookies looked like:

Some peanut butter balls, a bit of home peanut brittle, some delicious fudge cookies with cherries on top, fudge, and other delicious treats that I dont know what they are but dont get any fingers between it and my mouth. The best part of these to me? Well, after christmas and new years, my dad and I get together and divide up the leftovers. Mmmmmmmm.
So other than getting ready for this time of the year, it hopefully does give a chance to relax some as well as spend time with the family. Work tends to slow down in December as people take time off for their vacations and time with the family. Clients tend to call us a little less often. Contractors gearing up for their week or two shutdown on the job sites. At work we tend to take this time to either catch up on a few projects that we will be completing in January, archiving completed projects, or just cleaning up our files, getting things ready to start the marathon of the next work year.
I also don't think I have updated my music collection in a while, the one that is found here, But in the last month or so I have found some nice online deals and sales, which is a great time for me to fill in some gaps of music. Usually older albums by artists I like or things I may have missed when they first came out. I think overall I spent about $65 on $170 worth of music? I think that worked out well. So here is what I have picked up lately:
-
10 Things I Hate About You Soundtrack
-
Gaelic Storm - Speical Reserve
-
Matchbox Twenty - Exile On Mainstream
-
Flogging Molly - Alive Behind the Green Door
-
Tom Petty - Into The Great Wide Open
-
Matchox Twenty - Mad Season
-
Tom Petty - Wildflowers
-
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Mother's Milk
-
Heart - These Dreams: Greatest Hits
-
Dinosaur Jr. - Ear Bleeding Country: The Best Of
So, what else are people listening to out there? I know we've had a nice little discussion on Led Zeppelin a few weeks back.
Everyone have a happy turkey week.
