Jan 2008, our first snow....
With a cold front coming out of the northern midwest, and a rainy storm coming up from the Gulf of Mexico, everyone started freaking out about the first snow storm in Hampton Roads in a while.
Possible freezing rain they said.
Two to four inches of snow they said.
HIgh wind and temperatures below freezing they said.
That talk started on Thursday. Continued to Friday. Picked up even more Saturday morning. It started raining Saturday morning. Turned to a mix of rain and snow early evening. It apparently snowed through the night.
I look through our local paper online this morning, reading some of the comments on the story about last nights winter storm.
"Stock up on groceries, check on your neighbors, let the young kids shovel the walk. Stay indoors."
"Don't go out on the roads, stay inside, it is safer for all of us if we don't leave the house."
"You should thank our weather men for the hard work they put in to let us know of these storms before they get here."
And what did I wake up to as I looked out my window this morning?
This:
