A Pie In The Face

Ok, so apparently the 50s and 60s had some interesting games for kids to play. You know, until lawyers got involved and the cool things got "banned" for the "safety of the children". Like lawn darts. Big Smile Did anyone else have lawn darts growing up? My friends and I did. It got boring trying to throw the darts in the little target circle, so we basically played chicken. You stand over there, I see how close I can get my dart to your feet without you moving. And yes, before you ask how stupid I was, I do have all 10 of my toes.

Ooooo. What about trac ball? Any of you have that? The old set we had came two balls, a soft styrofoam ball and a harder plastic ball. I can't tell from this picture if these are hard or soft. Ah. Memories of summer days playing trac ball in the backyard trying to throw the balls at each other so they miss, scoring a glancing blow of a hard plastic ball off of someones forehead. Hehehehe. You know with the proper speed and spin those things would take a chunk of skin right off your head. Stick out tongue

Anyways, the point of this post this morning. Pie In The Face. Through my internet wanderings this morning while taking a break from work, I came across the following youtube video of a game called Pie In The Face. Basic game is this: You have a little catapult like device with a small pie pan on it. You fill the pie pan with whipped cream and then crank the handles a few times to set the game. You then place the now loaded pie catapult in front of you and spin a little spinner with numbers on it. I assume the number that comes up is the number of times you have to crank the handles before you pass it on to the next person. And if its your turn and youre cranking the handles sets off the mini pie catapult of doom, WHAMMO. You get a (all together now) "A PIE IN THE FACE!" Then you apparently reload the pie, turn the handles and start over. The commercial video is found here:

After watching that, let me ask you something. Isn't this in some odd way advocating Russian Roulette? Come on kids. Load the revolver and get a little spinner. It's fun for the whole family! Hmm. A pie in the face or a bullet in the head?

Can I just have my lawn darts back? Please?

State of the Bear, February....

So what's up all?

Is February treating you nice? Here we are to the 20th already. Damn, where is the time going? Well, I don't want to complain too much. I am about tired of this cold weather and the constant change from cold to warm to cold to warm that screws with my sinuses. Anything that gets us to spring time, warm weather, bright days, greener grass, more time outside, open sun roofs, and converitble tops removed is ok with me. I just hope work and life takes it easy so I am of a sound mind and body to enjoy it. Big Smile

So work has been interesting these last few weeks. As I have mentioned in a previous blog or two, I tend to juggle multiple projects at the same time. Sometimes I know what projects I will be working on in a given week, others just seem to pop back up unannounced and demand my attention. Depending on the importance of the cleint and the project, those either get moved up to the priority list, or just added to the list for when I get to them. Others certainly demand more attention then they deserve, and tend to cause more frustration then they are worth.

It is those times I come home, turn up the amp, and fiddle with some happy noise makers for a bit and work out some frustrations. This just tends to be a happy little strumming pattern between two chords. But I could sit there and fiddle with it for 10, 15, 20 minutes doing a few different things, changing strumming patterns and what not.

So, I am hanging in there, waiting for spring and summer. Good times for afternoon and evening summer drives with the top off. Saturday mornings driving down to the beach, sitting in the warm sand and reading and watching the waves. Or walking up and down the boardwalk looking for Dairy Queen. Evenings after work on the golf course, just swinging the clubs, walking and enjoying being outside. Even an afternoon or evening sitting at the local ball park eating ball park hotdogs and deep fried twinkies.

Yeah. Spring and summer are coming. I think I am ready for them.

Interesting Hockey Weekend

If anyone has gotten a chance to talk to me for a bit, you may have realized I am a big hockey fan. I follow the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL, but locally here in southeastern Virginia I have been a season ticket holder for a few years now to the Norfolk Admirals. They are the minor league affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning currently.

This past weekend we had two games against the Worcester Sharks, friday the 15th and saturday the 16th. This is not a team we play that often so what happened during the game friday night was very unexpected.

The Admirals were beating up the Sharks pretty good through two periods. Enough that I guess the visiting team decided if they couldn't beat us, they were going to beat us up. So, as soon as the puck dropped at the start of the 3rd period, this happened:

When all was said and done, 5 players had been thrown out. A minute later another set of fights broke out and another 3 players were thrown out. The rest of the game wasn't exactly clean, but there were no more fights.

That is until saturday night's game. Here are a few highlights:

Quite a bizarre weekend. And even though many of the rednecks down here in southeastern Virginia said the game was pretty boring until the fights broke out, I certainly would not agree. A fight here or there in a hockey game is to be expected. You protect your skill players, you have a big guy you basically point in the other teams direction and tell him to SMASH if things get out of hand.

The crap that happened this past weekend was not hockey. It was interesting to see once, but I hope I dont see it again.

And I guess it wouldnt be fair unless I ended this blog with a cheesecake jersey picture for the ladies. Stick out tongue
